United Nations General Assembly Emergency Special Sessions

At the end of the Security Council meeting, if the committee lacks unanimity among the permanent members and thus a lack of consensus in the decisions to be executed, it might lead to a failed resolution and thus a failure in exercising the powers of the Security Council. In that case, Under the resolution 377A(V), "Uniting for peace", adopted by the General Assembly on 3 November 1950, an "emergency special session" can be convened within 24 hours of the failure of the security council , If not in session at the time, the General Assembly may meet in emergency special session within twenty-four hours of the request therefore. Such emergency special session shall be called if requested by the Security Council on the vote of any nine members, or by a majority of the Members of the United Nations.

Executive Board

Akshay Aravindan

Chairperson, UNGA ESS

From being an introverted 10th-grade kid who was literally forced to attend his first MUN, Akshay has definitely come a long way and has become a familiar face in the Chennai Model UN circuit. Those of you who have been with him in council might identify him as that tall, overly emoting and overly gesticulating delegate who manages to sway council onto his side. A fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student from SSN College of Engineering, Akshay is a veteran of over 25 MUNs as a delegate, an executive board member and a member of the organizing committee. He has created a niche for himself by playing the antagonistic role in most committees. Akshay loves to experiment with various MUN councils and has been in around 10 different ones with Best delegate awards in most of them. Fondly known as Mr.493, Akshay is a strong believer in hard work and meticulousness as tools for perfection. Self-proclaimed science and music buff. With the help of his trusted co-EB members, Akshay promises to make this conference one to remember.

Falaah Khan

Vice Chairperson, UNGA ESS

Falaah is currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Electronics and Communication engineering, with a minor in Mathematics from Shiv Nadar University. With the experience of around 30 MUNs and a near perfect win record, Falaah’s niche lies in legalities and the technicalities of the UNSC. Extremely passionate about global politics and international law, this self proclaimed nerd is most likely painting, sketching or playing basketball in her free time.

Jonadab Theodore

Jonadab is a second year student of KCG college of technology. This is his second time in the Executive Board, and therefore rest assured, he has undergone enough training to stay focused for 3 days of hard labour, whipping out his pen as and when necessary. He has attended 10 MUNs as a delegate and 1 as a part of the EB and is well known for his ability to put his points across well.

He is also a big fan of Game of Thrones. Speaking of Big, Jonadab truly embodies the size matters argument at his 6'2 foot tall frame which is one of the first things people notice when they meet him face to face, metaphorically of course. He is remembered fondly by friends for his cheerful nature and the ability to be used as an impromptu umbrella. When he isn't crouching awkwardly in small spaces, He expresses his support for The Trump on various social media platforms and has consequentially had no success in Tinder
